Bayard Rustin to be Awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom

BayardRustin

President Barack Obama has posthumously named Bayard Rustin as one of sixteen recipients (along with Oprah, Sally Ride, and others) of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, “the Nation’s highest civilian honor, presented to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States.”

For those who don’t know Bayard Rustin, he is probably THE person who organized the historic March on Washington back in 1963. He was the right hand man of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during the civil rights movement. And as the country celebrates the 50th anniversary of this great event, it’s great to see President Obama acknowledge this man efforts!

"We are the World" – 25 Years ago and Today

Well if you don’t know, the current crop of “stars” banded together to re-record the classic “We are the World” done 25 years ago. It premiered during the Winter Olympic Opening Ceremony.

Personally, I thought the newest version sucked. The best parts were Jennifer Hudson, Celine, Pink and Barbara Streisand. The Michael/Janet part was cute but you could hardly hear her. The rest was awful and the rap part was totally not needed.
There are certain songs you just don’t touch and this is one of them.
I think this was just a spring board for artists who are total unknowns and for more established artists whose career is on the decline.
I’ve posted both the original and new version. I want to hear your thoughts on the new one!

Haiti needs us. How you can help!

I just went on CNN and MSNBC and have information on how to help our fellow brothers and sisters in Haiti.

There are multiple ways we can help:
Text “yele” to 501501 to donate $5 for Haitian Relief. (This is Wyclef Jean’s Yele Foundation).
Text “haiti” to 90999 to donate $10 (This is part of the American Red Cross)
President Clinton and U.S. Special Envoy to Haiti – text “haiti” to 20222 or go to the website!
UNICEF – They are seeking donations for children in haiti! Click here or call 1-800-4UNICEF
Also check local churches in your area where can donate water, food, clothing or cash.
Let us do all we can to help our fellow brother and sisters in Haiti.
God be with all of them during this difficult time!
