Today, I’m 36. I consider it a blessing I’m alive. Not all is well in my life but I guess I should be happy I’m alive.
I think the title of the song speaks for itself. LOL
On this day of giving thanks, I thought this song was appropriate.
Here is a great live version of the song “Grateful” from the legendary Sylvester.
Over the last two weeks, two young gay men of color have been murdered by older men who lured them to sex and murdered them. Both were killed maliciously.
Jason Mattison from Baltimore is killed by a “family friend” and ex-con and was forced into a sexual relationship. The accused, Dante Parrish, raped, stabbed and suffocated him and stuffed him in a closet.
Jorge Steven Lopez Mercado from Puerto Rico is killed by Juan Marteniz Matos. He “thought” he was dealing with a female prostitute and “panicked” killing Jorge then dismembering and burning him.
This homophobia in the Black/Latino communities must cease. I’m getting quite tired of these “men” claiming “panicked” when it really boils down to they have incredible self hatred to do such crazy heinous acts like this to these young men!
It’s truly sad to see what this world is coming to! Thankfully, Congress and President Obama passed federal legislation for hate crimes against LGBT persons!
May Jason and Jorge rest in eternal peace!
This is a hilarious look into “snapping”. This clip is from the insightful documentary “Tongues Untied” by Marlon Riggs.
Here is a classic from Jazz Pianist, Herbie Hancock. His music has spanned over 50 years ranging from jazz to fusion to hip hop and everything in between.
This song has been sampled by many in the hip hop community.
A dear friend and wife to one of my ONYX brothers was killed in a car accident on early Tuesday morning. My heart is heavy for Dana and his and her family during this time of sadness/grief. And what a bad to lose someone!
I’ll see you in heaven Errin! Rest in Peace my dear friend!
Sad news from the Atlanta Gay Publication world. Two prominent magazines which many in LGBT community found out the happenings with LGBT news, clubs, events and good articles with the known and unknown has ceased operations as of today.
I talked with the David Magazine editor, Ryan Lee, and he confirmed Window Media has closed both publications due to financial reasons. This not only affects Atlanta but also DC (Washington Blade), Florida (South Florida Blade) and Houston (Houston Voice) as well.
What a shame. I wasn’t a frequent reader of both magazines but I did read it on occasion and I was featured one of David’s issues back in the summer regarding “Daddy’s and their sons”.
I hope this is temporary and so media firm brings all these publications back to the community!
